Spicy yogurt chicken

Heather got this wonderful yogurt maker and she has been leaving jars of fresh yogurt in the refrigerator.  Most people would be content to throw some berries or granola in the yogurt and devour it for a simple and healthy breakfast.  However, I look at yogurt and think ohh..chicken marinade.  For some reason I never go to the healthy solution but instead the solution that is eventually going to kill me.

This is a really fun go to recipe and it is not that spicy you sissy because there is enough dairy to balance it out.  Normally I would be all about grilling these bad boys up but even I have my threshold for cold temperature and guess what it is single digits.

I could ramble on about nothing but well I have to work to do so back on my head (hate end of year crap).  Hope everyone is staying warm and winning the snowball fights!

For this recipe you will need:

  • 1 cup of yogurt
  • 1 cup of hot sauce (I used my boy Frank)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 teaspoon whole chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Chicken thigh, cut up chicken, or whatever combination of chicken parts you want to use.

Bloody hard steps to success:

  • Combine everything together but the chicken.
  • Taste do you like?  Sweet add in chicken.  You hate the taste?  OK add whatever makes you happy.
  • Let it relax in the fridge overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Put chicken in oven on roasting rack (once again I go to the cooling rack on top of a sheet pan approach for a ghetto roasting rack).
  • Cook until chicken is done (about 40 minutes for thighs).

Serve and enjoy!

Yogurt is such a great marinade for taste and texture.

I like to think that cooking yogurt-marinaded chicken is more tandoori-like when I put it in my clay pot baker.

Lovely! What a delicious marinade. Soo.. does that make me a bad wife for making hubby go out and BBQ in minus 15 degree weather last night? ;-)

Yup. That’s about my speed. :-)) Similar to an Indian tandoori chicken preparation. I love how it’s a whole cup of hot sauce and then a teaspoon of this and a teaspoon of that! LOL! Yum!

I’m going to forward this to my husband. He loves to marinade in various ways! And what is this about Franks. My husband loves to put that on every thing he cooks! Can’t wait to try this ;)

Spices like cumin, allspice, etc get a nice smoky flavour when they hit some heat. This would be fab on the grill.
